Two great albums by Lee Perry

Lee Perry is truly the Genius and Madman of reggae. Producer, songwriter and singer (or something like that), he does it all. Founder of the classic Black Ark studio with all the classic albums made there has made Perry an idol for both punk and electronicamusicians and listeners. Lee Perry is still going strong and his periods of mentally illness has gained some weird and bad foolish songs as well as masterworks. But where to begin if you are a newbee?

It may seem boring to recommend a compilation, but Reggae Greats (Island) are a beautiful collection of smashhits like  Murvin's "Police and Thieves," Romeo's "War Ina Babylon," George Faith's "To Be a Lover," and more obscure song like Jah Lion (aka Jah Lloyd) with "Wisdom" and  "Groovy Situation" by Keith Rowe. You also get Perry himself with "Roast Fish and Cornbread" and "Dreadlocks in Moonlight."

If you want to listen to one conceptalbum by Perry you can start of with the marvellous Super Ape. This is really heavyweightdub from The Upsetter mixed with wonderful vocals from Prince Jazzbo and Heptones Earl Morgan and Barry Llewellyn. "Zion's Blood" and "Dread Lion" are my favorites.

Jimmy Cliff - Two Best of Collections

Let us start with a celebration to the newly inductee i Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame; Jimmy Cliff.
No one can say that he does not deserve this award because he has really made so much for spreading reggaemusic around the world. Of course there has been both good tracks and really bad tracks. If you have been around since the sixties as an artist, you are surely making some hits and some misses.

I will recommend two Best Of - Collections that you can find on Spotify.

The first one is Reggae Greats that collects great tracks from Cliffs Island years. You can find the fantastic The Harder they Come as well as they beautiful Many Rivers to Cross.
The second one is Sunshine in the Music where you should listen to the nice tune Roots Radical and don't miss the downbeatsong Originator.

If you listen to these two albums from Jimmy Cliff I am sure that you are getting the picture about Cliffs music.
